Don’t let the Hamburglar steal sustainable investing

CCLA Better World Global Equity Fund

A recent FCA study reminded us that over 80% of adults would like the way their money is invested to do some good as well as provide a financial return. James will argue that a metric-led approach to sustainable investment is potentially mis-leading and that an approach that favours proper engagement has true merit. He will explain about how carbon footprints and offsets (as commonly used sustainable finance metrics) work and discuss the difference between real emissions and emissions avoidance. He will argue that engagement and real world change goes beyond merely a portfolio, going some way to satisfy what investors crave.

Breaking the mould: being responsible, sustainable and value orientated

Responsible & Sustainable European Equity Fund

The strong growth-led bull market over the past decade or so in Europe has seen an increasing divergence in valuation between ‘growth’ and ‘value’ areas of the market and on a relative basis versus the US. This backdrop provides a unique opportunity for allocators to capture record valuation discounts in terms of both a geographic and style basis. The EdenTree value orientated and contrarian European strategy has delivered outperformance against both value and mainstream equity market benchmarks across 15 years, despite stylistic headwinds. Over his tenure of the strategy, Chris has continued to apply the same thorough bottom-up stockpicking process, based on fundamental analysis with a strict valuation criteria. The outcome is a diversified portfolio of responsible and sustainable companies, which, on aggregate, trade at a significant discount relative to the benchmark.
